Théa & ESCRS Septembre 2024

Théa attended the ESCRS (European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons) Congress in Barcelona from September 6th to September 10th, 2024.
Over 16,700 participants were registered from 126 different countries to have the last scientific news in conferences, meet industries in their booth and discover their products.

This year ESCRS offered young ophthalmologists a Dry Lab session led by Mr. John Ferris and with 11 top UK trainers with 11 courses (90 min each) which attracted 135 delegates over the world. These courses were highly valuated by young ophthalmologists, who see them as a unique opportunity to develop their surgical skills. This also enables Théa to build strong links with them right from the start of their career !

During the year, Théa funds and supports events like this, and in collaboration with Simulated Ocular Surgery, we provide a platform for practicing doctors to observe, learn, and discuss ideas via videos on cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery. Visit for additional information.

On September 8th, Théa organized a round table entitled “Innovation and Partnership with Surgeons” with 4 internationally recognized speakers (Prof. Cochener, Prof. Mencucci, Prof. Nuijts and Mr. Ferris), followed by more than 300 invited doctors. It was a very fruitful moment where exchanges happened to improve everyone’s daily practice.

ESCRS History

ESCRS was founded in 1991 to promote education and research in the field of implants and refractive surgery and to advance and promote the study and practice of ophthalmology. ESCRS seeks to promote and support research in the field of intraocular lens implantation and refractive surgery and the dissemination of the useful results thereof. ESCRS has over 7,500 members from 130 countries world-wide.

The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons evolved from the European Intraocular Implant Club which was established in 1981. The Society is administered by the ESCRS Board, a Board of Ophthalmologists elected by its members. The ESCRS staff based in Dublin, Ireland, are responsible for the organisation of the Society’s day-to-day activities.
