Théa DryLab
Train your hands. Prepare your decisions. Master the technique. Thea DryLab is a hands-on training initiative designed to support the surgical skills development of young ophthalmologists.

What is DryLab?
DryLab is a training program using surgical simulation to help ophthalmology residents and interns practice essential techniques in a safe and structured environment. It offers a transition between theory and real-life operations by replicating common eye surgeries with synthetic models. These include exercises for cataract surgery, glaucoma procedures, suturing, and other precise manual tasks.
Each session follows a step-by-step learning method. Participants begin with simple actions and progress toward more advanced techniques. They receive guidance from instructors, work in small groups, and can review their performance with video support. This helps them improve their skills and learn how to make decisions in a surgical setting.
In addition to learning techniques, DryLab teaches good habits like hand positioning, the use of instruments, and posture. The goal is to build confidence and precision without the stress of a real operation.
DryLab evolves over time, based on feedback from participants and new trends in surgery. It is organized in partnership with hospitals and often takes place during major ophthalmology congresses, making it accessible to a wide range of trainees.
Unique training course for ophthalmology interns
Théa DryLab is specifically designed for residents at the start of their surgical training. This unique course structure combines practical exercises with trainers’ feedback to accelerate technical development. The training is tailored to match the learning curve of young professionals, enabling them to gain early exposure to surgical procedures such as cataract or glaucoma simulation. Participants also have the opportunity to review their techniques and progress step by step in a supportive environment. These sessions are regularly organized during major ophthalmology congresses and in partnership with university hospitals.
Our partner SIMULATED OCULAR SURGERY™ provides a gallery of surgical videos online:
To complement the in-person training, ThéaAcademy collaborates with Simulated Ocular Surgery™ , a reference platform that offers a comprehensive gallery of surgical videos. This online resource allows users to visualize real surgical steps performed by experienced surgeons and better understand the key moments of ophthalmic procedures. The video library is continuously updated and categorized by subspecialty, helping trainees review specific techniques before or after a DryLab session. This partnership extends the learning experience beyond the workshop, enabling 24/7 access to educational content for enhanced learning continuity.
